Habaneros Mexican Grill, located at 1601 Montgomery Highway in the Hoover Commons shopping center, has closed for good.
Habaneros announced the permanent closure on its Facebook page on February 20, stating:
“It has been a pleasure to serve you for so many years !
We’ll miss all those beautiful babies, our sweet elders!! and our wonderful families !!
Each of you have touch our lifes in so many different ways !!
We are so blessed to be part of this wonderful community , here at Hoover!
We keep all of you in our hearts and we’ll miss you very much 😪“
Habaneros recently announced a temporary closure on February 13, citing plumbing issues. According to a comment by the Habaneros page, the restaurant’s landlord plans to tear the structure down to build offices.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of supportive comments and shares. A petition to Reinstate Habaneros Mexican Grill for Our Community has been launched on Change.org, currently sitting at 61 signatures.
Habaneros currently operates two locations in the Birmingham area:
- Bessemer — 4863 Promenade Pkwy Ste. 103, Bessemer, AL 35022
- Trussville — 1477 Gadsden Hwy #126, Birmingham, AL 35235
