Posted on November 6, 2026

Harold Greene, a familiar presence on Los Angeles television for decades, has died at age 82. His family announced his passing on Wednesday, November 4.

His daughter, Courtney Greene, shared that he died the previous night with his wife and daughter by his side. In her tribute, she said the family’s beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend had “signed off for the last time.”

The family remembered Greene with warmth and humor, imagining him already settling into “the great newsroom in the sky.” They invited viewers and friends to share photos and memories, and said a memorial would be held after the holidays.

A familiar face in Southern California

Greene began his journalism career as a producer and reporter in 1970. His work took him to San Diego and San Francisco before he returned to Los Angeles and ABC7 in 1982.

He became one of the station’s best-known anchors, presenting its 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts. Greene remained with ABC7 until 2000, becoming a trusted voice for viewers across Southern California.

A career recognized with major awards

In 2001, Greene joined CBS2 and KCAL9, where he reunited with colleagues from his earlier years in Los Angeles television. His time with the stations ended in 2008.

Over the course of his career, Greene received multiple Golden Mike Awards, two Emmy Awards, and three Edward R. Murrow Awards.

For generations of viewers, Greene was a steady and familiar presence on the evening news. His family’s invitation to share memories offers colleagues and audiences a chance to celebrate the life and career of a journalist who meant so much to them.

Rest in peace, Harold Greene. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former colleagues.
